About the event

Holding Space invites you to a community arts showcase: sharing songs, poetry, art, ideas and fashion developed over the span of the Auckland Climate Festival. Featuring performances from The Songwriters4ClimateAction Project and submissions from other local creatives.

We believe art is a powerful way to connect, inspire, communicate and shape our culture for the better; especially around this shared kaupapa we all have right now in the hopes of tackling this climate crisis. Along with performances, there will be a space for climate conscious organisations to share information, network over drinks and nibbles plus a vibrant Fashion Show thrown in the mix — this will truly be an unforgettable and colourful creative night!

This event is in collaboration with Fashion Rebellion Aotearoa. We will be making space for The Fashion Rebellion Show half way through the night; with works by The Upcycle Collective, Janine Clarkin and more to come. Expect an activist up-cycled fashion show, protesting the environmental and humanitarian issues of the fashion industry whilst celebrating community spirit, upcycled and natural materials, ingenuity and our relationship to Papatūānuku.

More information and a full schedule to come. We invite collaboration and support from other community groups. Let us know if you would like to get involved by emailing: holdingspaceaotearoa@gmail.com

Songwriters 4 Climate Action (SW4CA) is a project intended to bring together community-based performers through a series of workshops and activities; to help support and inspire them to develop songs, artwork and start conversations that highlight the challenges and hopes for climate action.

Our aim is to work towards live performances and record songs / creative content (to a professional standard) that we can share on multiple platforms to help spread awareness and positivity around this kaupapa. This Project has expanded to promote the collaboration and response of artists to the work of Kaitiaki and other experts active in the Climate Field. Through this process we hope to support dialogue and connection between many communities, all learning a thing or two along the way.

About us: Holding Space Aotearoa is a Charitable Arts Trust with a mission to ‘hold space’ for our artistic community and worthy causes in Tāmaki Makaurau. With a focus on community events, music, workshops and education. Creating opportunities & creative content to uplift our people and whenua.

Kia ora to The Ellen Melville Centre for hosting this event. Special thanks to Waitematā Local Board for supporting The Songwriters4ClimateAction Project.
