About the event

We will be focusing on reviewing some classic ‘environmental’ songs that have had some success from artists like: Bob Dylan, Jono Mitchell, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson, and also some new songs from Billie Eilish, Sylvan Esso and Anohni. Some guest musicians will also share some of their original work to look at.

Songwriters 4 Climate Action is a project intended to bring together community-based performers (in Tāmaki Makaurau) through a series of workshops and activities; to help support and inspire them to write or develop songs that highlight the challenges and hopes for climate action. Our aim is to work towards a live performance and record songs / videos (to a professional standard) that we can share on multiple platforms to help spread awareness and positivity around low carbon climate action. Through this process we hope to build a supportive music community and learn a thing or two along the way.

This project is an extension of Songwriter Club (hosted weekly by Ema at Win-Win, Ponsonby on Wednesdays) and with support from Waitematā Low Carbon Network.
