We will be focusing on reviewing some classic ‘environmental’ songs that have had some success from artists like: Neil Young, Michael Jackson, Anohni and kiwi artists like: Troy Kingi and Fat Freddy's Drop and Trinity Roots. Some guest musicians will also share some of their original work to look at.
Songwriters 4 Climate Action is a project intended to bring together community-based performers (in Tāmaki Makaurau) through a series of workshops and activities; to help support and inspire them to write or develop songs that highlight the challenges and hopes for climate action. Our aim is to work towards a live performance and record songs / videos (to a professional standard) that we can share on multiple platforms to help spread awareness and positivity around low carbon climate action. Through this process we hope to build a supportive music community and learn a thing or two along the way.
This project is an extension of Songwriter Club (hosted weekly by Ema at Win-Win, Ponsonby on Wednesdays) and with support from Waitematā Low Carbon Network and Waitematā Local Board.
