We are very excited to announce internationally renowned producer, song writer and loop artist Mihirangi Mihi will be hosting this workshop; sharing some of her songs, experience and tips for Songwriting with a Political / Environmental focus.  Mihirangi is a national advisor for Climate Live NZ and has been involved with the International Indigenous Music Summit, Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians and Sea Shepard to name a few.

Songwriters 4 Climate Action is a project intended to bring together community-based performers through a series of workshops and activities; to help support and inspire them to write or develop songs that highlight the challenges and hopes for climate action. Our aim is to work towards a live performance and record songs / videos (to a professional standard) that we can share on multiple platforms to help spread awareness and positivity around low carbon climate action. Through this process we hope to build a supportive music community and learn a thing or two along the way.

MĀMĀ MIHIRANGI & the MĀREIKURA

From Aotearoa (NZ) a production of indigenous earthy feminine power and inspiring cultural identity.

A powerful and fierce all-female Māori world-roots production lead by internationally renowned artist/activist and “Queen of Loops”, Māmā Mihirangi. Weaving ancient chants with intricate harmonies, traditional & contemporary instruments, beats & deep bass, all being innately familiar but all of it incredibly unique. The Māreikura are her traditional female dancers who present the virtues of feminine power and inspiring cultural identity with the Women’s haka, traditional weaponry and Māori martial arts combined into a contemporary cultural performance that is informative, inclusive and truly inspiring.

“It's clear that Mihi places great importance on having a genuine connection with her fans, using her lyrics to communicate subjects that are important to her and central to Maori culture.” BMA Magazine Australia by Katherine Quinn
